The Park will be closed next Monday and Tuesday with no public access.
This is to allow the felling of Willow trees close to walkways and boardwalks in a safe manner. These trees will be replaced with natives in July/August as part of the grant received from MPI to restore areas of the forest that have suffered badly from flooding and invasive species. The project will be continuing for 3 -4 years and will involve clearing around ox-bow ponds. The Trust asks for understanding as some parts of the forest will look rather bare for some time but this is a major opportunity to return the forest to its proper status as a lowland podocarp swamp forest, to open up ponds that have been obscured from public view and to return species that have been lost over many years.
