Graeme Dixon, volunteer trapper at Kitchener Park has reported that for the last two years no possums have been trapped within the Park. Now the main pests are stoats, weasels, rats, mice and feral cats.
The Trust with Graeme's guidance has established a pest control buffer zone which extends as far as Manfeild.
Pest control has seen the return of kereru, nesting tui and fantails to the Park as well as grey warbler's and cuckoo. Last week visiting schools conducted a bird count and this will continue to add data helping with the recovery of bird life in the Park.
